The Project

At our company we get to build software but sometimes our discussions and ideas take a more humorous route.

Like most people who sit in front of a computer too much, we were using Chatgpt and Bard - trying to figure out what to make of it. I have two boys - ages six & nine, and the thing that struck me about large language models was the surprisingly good early moderation built in. I thought - what a perfect tool for them.

Now I could go on a whole rant about how I dislike kids having unstructured access to platforms like YouTube, or how we had to band together as a neighborhood to get rid of Prime (energy drink. If you know the struggle, you know) - but I won’t rant here for the sake of brevity. Suffice it to say, I want to give my children access to the world's information - I just don’t want the algorithms to turn their young minds to mush.

Alex Peltier is an amazing engineer. He created Benny in his Pittsburgh home over the course of a few weeks. We tested it numerous times and whenever it was set up it was a hit. It drew uninvited crowds from neighbors and classrooms who all wanted to see it in action.

We would introduce him as the world’s smartest bison and allow guests of all ages to chat with him with no instruction. So what’s next for this Large Language Mammal? Welp Benny will be commercialized in the coming weeks.

The first markets are educational. If you are a business owner and have a use case for him - we’d love to hear it.

The beauty of this project is that it gets attention. It's a 4’ talking mammal who knows just about everything.

We can code for him specific things in seconds - ex: Benny its Jonnys 8th birthday party, his favorite animal is a snake and he likes pizza.. make sure tell everyone about the new lobster pizza special.
